Topic:
Windows 7;;
How do I completely close a folder or file so it can be renamed without getting this error message?
Even though I have closed all folders and files for a specific mother folder, I still get this error message when I try to rename the mother folder:
"The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. close the folder or file and try again."
So there must be somewhere else in my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit that the child folders or a file in this mother folder is opened. Is there any way to make sure I completely close all files and folders everywhere in Windows?

Ok, thanks. I found this also (another unlocker on CNET):
http://download.cnet.com/Unlocker/3010-2248_4-10493998.html?tag=contentBody;sideBar
I'll try one of them.

It seems this unlocker from CNET is risky because of malware. Do you know any safe unlocker?

500 points EXCELLENT
How many files you can not rename and have error, 100 or 1000 files ?
If it is just several files, you can use unlocker program (you can type unlocker
in google) to unlock those issue files and then you can rename them
Or still in issue, could you set back your computer to the date that is no
such issue before by Window system recovery program ?

becraig, I downloaded from your link and tried it, but after running it nothing happens. This small black command prompt window flashes up for a second and then closes again, that's it. What happens for you when you double-click this handle application to start it?
Duncan, there were many suggestions in that Microsoft link, and I tried first to run gpedit.msc but received the error message "Windows cannot find 'gpedit.msc'". Then I tried to delete all files in temporary files folder, and it works for some of these temporary files, but then I receive the same message as this posting is about, that the folder is already open in another program. So it's a catch 22 situation.
