Give http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/ a try. It is from moz.com and designed around seo.

If it is your site, Google Webmaster Tools will show you much better link results than any Google Search will. But you do have to own the site and create a sitemap.

The 'link:' syntax does not work well. It looks like it returns good results only for large site. I get many more results without that for my customer's sites.
